The Best Summer Job in the World!

Teenage Shelley Vohr Heads to Ambergris Cay for an Incredible Summer Internship

May 26, 2009 –Ambergris Cay, Turks & Caicos, BWI – Shelley Vohr, thirteen, is interning this summer with her father, Neal Vohr, the interim club manager of Turks & Caicos Sporting Club at Ambergris Cay. Dubbed as THE BEST SUMMER JOB IN THE WORLD, at any age, Shelley is actively blogging about her experiences on the private island through videos, photos and anecdotes to be shared with members, classmates and press around the world!

Shelley’s stint on Ambergris Cay began Tuesday, May 26, lasting just shy of a month through June 18. Her responsibilities include working with campers during the summer Kids’ Eco-Camp series, week-long camps for children of all ages featuring a variety environmental projects and activities to help educate the next generation in the study of environmental science. Shelley also maintains the equipment at the Environmental Learning Center, keeping a watchful eye on the health and well-being of the ELC’s aquarium through monitoring its salinity levels. The internship also includes aiding with the Millennium Seed Bank Collection project, in collaboration with The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, as well as shadowing Ambergris Cay’s Concierge team and acting as a Junior Ambassador for The Club.

Even though Shelley spends time cleaning the beach and maintaining the aesthetic of the tennis courts, the summer will not be all work and no play! When asked what she is most excited about, Shelley said, “I really can’t wait to playing tennis with my dad.”

Shelley is thirteen years old and will be entering 8th grade at Ashley Hall in Charleston, SC. This is her first unpaid summer internship and has future professional dreams of being a marine biologist. Turks & Caicos Sporting Club looks forward to working with Shelley and wishes her the best of luck with her upcoming Ambergris Cay adventures!
