Clink, clink… Crash!

Porcelain Pieces     One of the many amazingly cool things that I’ve discovered while on the Cay are broken pottery bits. Two hundred years ago, settlers from another part of the world came with a few belongings to try and make a living on Ambergris Cay. When they came, they built houses out of the limestone plentiful on the island. In those houses, the created beautiful plates, bowls, and mugs. Sadly, almost all of the porcelain was broken into lots of little pieces by hurricanes that blew through in following years. Most of the little pieces, though, are still around, and it’s probably possible to recreate three-fourths or more of a plate or mug (a goal of mine). Most of the settlers’ ruins are still partially intact, though, and other things, such as a pot, a limestone wheel, and cow bones have been found in and around them as well.
