Today! What a good day! Three things made my day great.
The first, which was my least favorite, was my flight here, which consisted of sitting on airplanes and in airports for six hours straight. That was super boring, but still good because those planes were getting me even closer to my final destination: Ambergris Cay!
The second thing was the last leg of my flight to Ambergris. Although it was part of the plane trip, it didn’t seem like so much of one to me because I was having too much fun looking out the window to notice. I spent the entire time jumping and pointing at the reefs and large manta rays I could see from the sky. My father smiled good-naturedly and humored me; he’d seen all those things many times before.
The last, and best, thing occurred minutes after I arrived and set up my room. My dad called me to my door, and said that we were going to tour the island! I tore out of my room and jumped into the maintenance cart; my dad followed soon after and started the engine. We managed to see almost every part of the island, from Whale Watchers Point to Salt Rakers Cove (a very pretty spot) to some interesting settlers’ ruins that have been on the island for hundreds of years. Something else I noticed was the surplus of iguanas (big ones: over a foot long!) and five-inch geckos that ran rampant throughout the island. Later, I discovered that there are around nine thousand iguanas (Rock Iguanas, I think they’re called) on the island of that one species alone. It was only when I almost accidentally flattened one that my dad told me they were a protected species and to be more careful.
Following that incident, my father and I went to dinner at Calico Jack’s Pavilion (a truly gorgeous spot) where I had pork followed by chef Tadd Frye’s delicious vanilla sugar donuts (wow!!). The day was finished with a thunderstorm that I slept right through, but I was told it was huge.
